Sections of Tonkin Highway will be given a significant facelift with the Federal Government promising more than $180 million to give road users a smoother journey to and from their destination.

The intersections of Hale Road, Welshpool Road and Kelvin Road will be redeveloped to include overpasses instead of the already existing traffic light controlled intersections.

Foreign minister and Member for Curtin Julie Bishop joined member for Hasluck Ken Wyatt at the corner of Tonkin Highway and Welshpool Road last week to announce the funding.

Ms Bishop said the projects would make a huge difference to road safety and connectivity and would also help to alleviate congestion.

Mr Wyatt said the infrastructure changes would provide the people of Hasluck and passing motorists with a safe journey to and from work and home.

“These upgrades also add to the efficiency of the economy, instead of trucks stopping, they will have a continuous link right through to Midland,” he said.

The $183 million funding announcement is part of the $3.2 billion infrastructure package that the Federal Government announced for WA earlier this month.
