Li-ion Energy in Gosnells, an innovative business focused on repurposing materials to promote sustainability, has been recognised with a Switched On Business Award from Switch Your Thinking.

City of Gosnells Mayor Terresa Lynes said Li-ion Energy was commended for its innovative approach to recycling and refurbishing lithium-ion battery packs, alongside repurposing battery components and other materials that come through its doors.

Most of the battery’s Li-ion Energy reconditions are sourced from devices like e-bikes, scooters, and electric vehicles.

“Li-ion Energy are proving that it is possible to introduce sustainable initiatives in the way they do business – in fact, it forms the very heart of their business model,” Mayor Lynes said.

“Adopting a recycle-first approach reduces waste and helps to create a cleaner and more sustainable future for our community.”

Chairperson of the South East Regional Energy Group (SEREG) and City of Armadale Mayor Ruth Butterfield also congratulated Li-ion Energy on their award and said it is important to recognise businesses that have embedded sustainability into their operations.

“Switched On Business award recipients are leading the way amongst local businesses, and providing a lasting legacy for the wider community.”

“Introducing sustainable initiatives into business operations is usually financially beneficial, in addition to conserving resources for the future and preventing pollution.”

“If you run a business, I want to encourage you to take a careful look at how you can introduce sustainable initiatives in your operations – you might find these steps are financially beneficial as well as helping the environment.”

Li-ion Energy owner Justin Manton, who founded the business in early 2023, was thrilled to receive the award.

At Li-ion Energy, we recycle 95 per cent of all materials containing lithium batteries through a variety of avenues,” he said.

“We are also designing and developing a proposed community power wall and constructing a 50kWh battery for the business premises, plus we provide a free battery recycling drop-off point for the community.”

“We have big plans for the future in this space.”
