Tensions continue after wild party

Residents in Bernice Street, Thornlie have conflicting views regarding a so-called out-of-control party held on September 1 and 2.

The events resulted in the arrest of 19-year-old party host Paige Lockyear who told The Examiner in an inclusive interview on September 6 there was no need for police to intervene.

However Ms Lockyear’s neighbour Terry Green believed differently.

He said he was not the only one on the street who felt the police had every right to be there and that he had enough.

“If I complain about anything it makes me a racist because they are an indigenous family,” he said.

“That is not the case at all.”

Mr Green said he has had enough of the continuous parties, which he claimed had gone on until the early hours of the morning.

He also claimed accounts of domestic abuse and alcoholism resulting in fights.

Another Bernice Street resident who wished to remain anonymous said there was nothing wrong with the aforementioned party.

“I was even invited to it,” he said.

“I went for a bit and a party is a party, there was nothing there that suggested danger or the need for police to turn up the way they did.”

Police arrived about 9.39pm on both evenings of the party in their riot gear.

Airwing also attended.

The anonymous Bernice Street resident said Australia was a multicultural country and while there were positives to multiculturalism one drawback were the racial tensions on the street.

He said people needed to be more understanding.

Ms Lockyear and her family have previously claimed the comments directed towards them from some neighbours were racially motivated and insisted the party they hosted was not out of control.
