Last week saw the completion of round nine and a break from competing for the Byford Basketball Association.

On September 20 the competition came to a halt allowing players and volunteers to take a break as students enjoyed their school holidays.

Byford Basketball Association coach Trevor Holmes said next term would see six under 12 teams hit the court.

He said with so many players the club was seeking volunteers as ‘many hands make light work.’

Mr Homes also said the under 16s and 18s provided a lot of excitement in the lead up to the break.

“They are evenly matched in competitions,” he said.

“They provide some great basketball each week.”

Mr Holmes said early last week the Eversharp Bulls overcame a slow start to beat the Byford Tyre Service Spurs by two points with the end result 53-51.

He said player Asher Valentine helped Eversharp to a win.

“He chipped in with 13 while his teammate Demmy Bullock dropped 21,” he said.

Mr Homles said in the under 12s the Quokkas took on the Byford Koalas.

He said the Koala’s were first on the score board with a couple from Daniel Leech-Hines and Kade Sproxton but it wasn’t long before Josh Rylie found his range bringing the match back to even at half time.

“The game see sawed for the second half until Dayne Olsen stepped up to hit a couple and give the Quokkas a three-point win,” he said.

“In the other game it was the Crocs who were too good for the Wallabies who were missing some vital players.”

Mr Holmes said the under 10 teams continues to improve with all three games getting more and more exciting each week.
