Musician Rachel John says this year’s Kelmscott Show is sure to be a wonderful day.

Finalists were preparing to compete in Kelmscott Idol which will be held later this month.

In its fifth year the calibre of talent continues to rise according to founder and entertainment coordinator Rachel John.

Ms John said Kelmscott Idol was unique compared to other talent shows across the state.

“It is a life skills workshop and helps the contestants with skills on how to handle a microphone,” she said.

“It empowers them with confidence and self esteem.”

This year there have been 67 juniors between the ages of six and 12 who auditioned for the top 12 and there were 29 seniors aged 13 to 17 who also took part.

The finalists will compete on stage with three judges marking their performance according to their vocal styling, use of the stage and connection with the audience.

Ms John said Kelmscott Idol was more than a talent show.

She said it enriched the lives of budding musicians from across the state.

“It especially focuses on encouraging the talents of singer songwriters who perform original songs at the show,” she said.

In addition to a savings account with Bendigo Bank, should a singer-songwriter win Kelmscott Idol performing an original song, they will also receive a six-hour recording session in a professional studio, mentored by well-known songwriter and judge Antonio Corea.

Ms John said the event continues to draw thousands to the heart of Kelmscott and was a wonderful day out.

“The Kelmscott Idol contestants are looking forward to entertaining the crowd,” she said.

“Having heard their voices, I can confirm its going to be a tough competition.”

Kelmscott Idol will be held at Rushton Park Kelmscott on October 20 and 21.

Tickets start at $10 for children and seniors, $16 for adults and children under five are free.

Family tickets are available.
