Six hours of continuous entertainment has been promised for a community festival in Willetton this month.
Now in its 26th year, the free Willetton Rotary Community Fair will run from 10am to 4pm on April 8 at Burrendah Reserve and Rotary fair chair Simon Cubitt said the 2018 event promised to be a great one.
“It’s one of the biggest fairs conducted in the southern suburbs and there are plenty of attractions for families that will keep them amused and engaged,” he said.
Mr Cubitt said the event had helped raise substantial amounts of money for the community and youth projects every year.
Rotary communications coordinator David Honeychurch said a wealth of family fun was planned.
“We have a climbing tower, a showman with all sorts of rides, cuddly animals, face painting, cardboard castles,” he said.
“The Men’s Shed will come in with their gear and kids will get to build something, and there is a Scitech mobile display as well.”
The fun is not just for children, though, with a silent auction running throughout the day for adults with items up for bidding including a kayak, wine cases, movie tickets and fast food vouchers.
Performances have been booked and highlights include the Leeming Big Band, Star Struck Dance Studio, the Willetton Senior High School Pipe Band, and three-piece rock band S-A-M performing classic music from the 1960s and 70s to run throughout the day.
One attraction that is sure to be popular is the ‘dunk a pollie’ feature.
Member for Riverton Mike Nahan will put himself up as a target in a dunking machine and Mr Honeychurch promised lines of stalls with home-made goods.
“We hope it will be somewhere around 8000 visitors,” he said.
