Thousands flocked to last weekend’s Willetton Rotary Community Fair for an event organisers said was a great success.

On a day that peaked at 24°c, estimated figures by Rotary communications coordinator David Honeychurch suggested about 9000 people turned up to Burrendah Reserve, revelling popular family attractions including stalls of home-made goods, on-stage entertainment, international food stalls, a climbing tower and animal displays.

Member for Riverton Mike Nahan even put himself at the mercy of voters by volunteering to enter a dunking machine and was summarily drenched.

Mr Honeychurch said a secret auction drew great interest, with prizes including a kayak, boxes of wine and two days of house painting.

“It was as successful as anything we’ve had before,” he said.

“It wasn’t too hot or too cold and we had a great mix of people from every nationality, which is really a reflection of the whole of the City of Canning.”

Mr Honeychurch said he thanked attendees, supporters and sponsors for ensuring the event was a success.

“It makes a huge difference to our ability to run the fair,” he said.
