It was better late than never for Southern River College’s Harmony Day celebrations as students participated in a host of activities last week.

Face painting, an interactive mural and cooking damper were all on the to-do list for the week-long celebrations, with an inaugural colour run held on the Thursday being the highlight for many young and old.

The school oval was blanketed in a thick layer of coloured dust and the students were covered from head to toe as they walked, ran and danced their way through the course.

Lead English teacher Denise Schultz said the day, which is normally celebrated on March 21, fell during the school’s OLNA testing week, which meant some students were unable to participate.

“We also wanted more than one day to celebrate our community’s diversity so we decided to have it in the final week as a positive way to finish up our extra long term and allow for more participation across all year levels,” she said.

Students drew on their creative talents and designed a Harmony Week poster for the school and also learnt how to say ‘hello’ in different languages.

Ms Schultz said the celebrations were hugely successful and thanked student councillors and staff for their involvement.
