The young and the old, struggling families and people who just wanted some company were among those who came along this week to the Love Langford dinner.
Held on Tuesday at the Christian City Church Langford, also known as C3 Langford, the free dinner aimed to curb social isolation and help people experiencing financial hardship.
City of Gosnells Mayor Glenn Dewhurst, Deputy Mayor Terresa Lynes and fellow councillors Julie Jones, Olwen Searle and Peter Abetz, dished up the meals and chatted to many residents in their time of need.
Ms Jones said she felt honoured to be a part of the humbling experience.
“Not only do these dinners bring our community closer, they also show others that we care,” she said.
“I have experienced first hand the devastation suicide and mental health issues can bring.
“If by attending these sorts of events and speaking to those struggling I can help those in a crisis, then it was worth it.”
Ms Lynes said the Love Langford dinners were held every fortnight serving between 200 and 250 meals each session.
“I’m very excited about supporting the Love Langford dinners because they invite residents to meet others in the community, build relationships with one another, volunteer, gain skills and have fun,” she said.
C3 Langford is currently seeking agencies to partner with, to expand dinners and provide onsite training for job seekers and to develop life skills.
