One of Byford’s newest dining establishments is up in arms over new signage promoting the opening of the ALDI grocery store.

Lemas, which opened on South Western Highway earlier this year, claims the “opening soon” signage, which is estimated to be about eight metres tall and three metres wide by four metres long, is blocking the view from its roof-top bar.

Owner of the property and part owner of Lemas Steven Lenz said the patrons and locals alike were outraged over the signage that blocked the view and shone piercing light in to the establishment.

“It is an eyesore,” he said.

“It seems to be an arrogant move from a big company that has no regard for local business.”

Mr Lenz said Lemas would be preparing a petition against the signage that they will submit to the shire and ALDI.

“We have already had quite a few that said they would sign it,” he said.

ALDI Australia spokesperson said the development application for the new ALDI Byford store was approved in 2016 and this included the pylon signage outside the store.

“Details of the approval have also been publicly available since the application was granted,” they said.

“We will continue our ongoing discussions with the neighbour regarding the positioning of the pylon.”

ALDI Byford is set to open its doors from 8.30am on May 9.
