Science resources such as telescopes, petri dishes, salinity testing kits and Lego kits will soon top up the existing supplies at Jarrahdale Primary.

A $10,000 State Government funding grant will help the school update their current equipment to further explore areas of the science curriculum for its students in kindergarten through to year six.

Principal Mrs Julie Denholm said the equipment and resources would allow staff to engage students in innovative thinking and provide opportunities using up-to-date equipment and processes.

“This will then expand their capacity to critically and creatively reason through experimentation, trial, error, observation and reflection,” she said.

“We feel it is highly important for students to use practical, real-world components to provide authentic STEM experiences that contribute to meaningful learning.”

State Member for East Metropolitan Region Matthew Swinbourn said the grant would help the school of less than 100 students update to modern classroom equipment.

“The McGowan Government wants to ignite an interest in science in Western Australian students from a young age and I’m sure this grant will help the students of Jarrahdale Primary School get excited about science,” he said.

Jarrahdale Primary was among more than 60 small public primary schools that received the funding.
