Four sisters, who were all born and bred in Jarrahdale, will take on the best of the best next month in the Australian Nationals Polocrosse Championships.

Held between October 1 and 7 at the state equestrian centre in Brigadoon, sisters Salli Galvin, Suzette Thomas, Tracey Jarrett and Elizabeth Reid will join teammates Tia Hall, Marijka Thomas and Jodi Dunlop as they compete in the open’s women’s category of this year’s competition.

Mrs Galvin said the sisters known in the competition as the “Lyster sisters” had been competing in the sport since they were all about six years old.

“It is a fast paced sport where you need to have agile, quick horses and good horsemanship skills in order to succeed,” she said.

“To be selected to represent our state is an amazing achievement and I feel honoured to be doing it side by side with my sisters.”

Two of Mrs Galvin’s children, Seamus and Colm will also be representing Western Australia in the junior under 12s competition for the national title.

The national championships attract up to 400 competitors and 600 horses each year, making it one of the biggest events on the equestrian calendar.
