Organisers are hoping a new location will encourage hundreds of residents to come along and join in the festive cheer at this year’s carols.

The Byford Carols have previously been held at Marri Grove Primary. However, a change in agreement has led the group to Briggs Park in Byford, which will now be the new home of the annual carols event.

Byford Carols committee member Colleen Rankin said the group had spent weeks trying to find a suitable location with enough room and parking without trees and gardens blocking the audience’s view of the main stage.

“We needed to find somewhere with cover as every third or fourth year we experience bad weather for the event,” she said.

“We also needed somewhere for the hundreds of people to park and a close distance to walk comfortably to and from the free event.”

This year’s carols will feature performances from local churches, the Heritage Country Choir and the Melville Air Force Association Band.

There will also be a free sausage sizzle and free electronic candles for all in attendance. All younger audience members will receive a free book about the story of Christmas and a bag of lollies from Santa who will be coming to the event in the Byford Volunteer Fire Brigade truck.

The carols will be held at Briggs Park on December 9 from 6.30pm.
