A man has been charged for allegedly holding up this store last week.

A 27-year-old Rivervale man has been charged with aggravated armed robbery after he allegedly held up a bakery with a knife last week.

About 1.15pm on January 17 the man entered Forrest Road Bakery and Cafe and allegedly held a large knife to the back of a customer before stealing $20 out of his hand.

He then starting demanding staff member Chau Nhu to open the till waving the knife near her face and the customer’s neck.

Ms Nhu said she repeatedly told the man she wasn’t going to give him any money and that he should leave.

She told The Examiner the man was a regular customer at the store who always paid for his items and had never said or done anything to her or the fellow staff before.

“It was terrifying,” she said. “I was scared but it happened so fast.

“We have had items stolen quite frequently like a few times a month but nothing like this.” The man left the store with only the $20.

Police later charged the man with aggravated armed robbery.

He appeared at the Armadale Magistrates Court on January 17 and was remanded in custody to reappear on February 1.
