It was a sea of red, blue and white at Minnawarra and Memorial parks on Saturday as thousands of people joined in this year’s Australia Day festivities.

The City of Armadale celebrations included carnival rides, a fun water zone, fireworks display and live entertainment.

Mayor Henry Zelones said the record crowd of about 30,000 people enjoyed the family-friendly evening.

“After months of planning and preparation to bring this event to our community it was pleasing to see so many families relaxing and enjoying the great atmosphere throughout the evening,” he said.

“The crowd was kept entertained with a variety of live entertainment which included the local Mungart Yongah Aboriginal dancers, the Struggling Kings and the Two Cent Professionals.

“The highlight of the evening was the Freddie Mercury Tribute with Thomas Crane after the fireworks.”
