A story about legendary Australian outlaw Ned Kelly performed as an opera production?
Yes you read that right.
Lost and Found Opera’s world premiere of Ned Kelly was performed last weekend at Jarrahdale Mill with guests coming from all over the metropolitan area to enjoy the close and personal production.
Composer Luke Styles and songwriter Peter Goldsworthy explored the themes of Australian identity and masculinity through some surprising elements of the Ned Kelly story.
They weaved the myth with lesser-known extraordinary facts about the politics, loves and quirks of Australia’s most famous bushranger.
Ned Kelly is directed by Janice Muller with music direction from Lost and Found artistic director Chris van Tuinen, who conducted an ensemble of West Australian Symphony Orchestra players, community chorus and folk musicians.
The production was performed last Friday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday and was co-commissioned by Perth Festival.
