A local junior rugby union club is hoping to send a team full of stars to an international competition later this year, but they need your help.
ARK’s Rugby Union junior president Susan Kani said the club is hoping to raise $30,000 in order to send between 20 and 22 of their best performers, along with two coaches, a team manager and a first aid officer to compete in this year’s Centaurs international mini and youth rugby tournament in Singapore.
“It’s a chance for us to represent the club on an international platform,” she said.
“Not all players get to tour during their sporting years so this is an opportunity of a lifetime for these boys and girls.”
Ms Kani said the experience to compete abroad would also give the close-knit team a chance to continue their skills and share a bond that will stay with them for years to come.
“This team is truly amazing,” she said.
“Most of them have been playing together for four years, they had an undefeated season as under 10s and in the same year they won the sevens rugby championship.”
The club has set up a GoFundMe account to help raise the funds for the international tournament and they will also be organising a number of other fundraising activities throughout the year, which will include a quiz night, raffles and a movie event.
