Some businesses within the Lakeside Plaza shopping complex in Byford are blaming road closures and lack of signage for reduced customer patronage.

The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale has a number of road improvement works in operation including Mead Street between Warrington Road and Gordin Way, Doley Road and Abernethy Road, which all serve in some way as access routes to the new Byford centre.

JOLS Wellness Hub owner Erica Jolley said several business owners had met with shire staff about the affects the road closures would have on their businesses but she said they did not listen.

“I think the way the shire has planned the road closures has been crazy,” she said.

The Glades Fish and Chips manager Emma Kouka said she had noticed their customers dwindle within the past two weeks.

“Customers have told us they have been unsure on how to get here and haven’t realised there is a detour because there hasn’t been much signage,” she said.

Chief executive Kenn Donohoe said the shire would not be offering compensation.

“The shire has been working proactively with affected business owners to address their concerns during the road closures,” he said.

“We anticipate that Kardan Boulevard roundabout will be open to traffic before Easter, as well as the entry to Abernethy Road off Hopkinson Road.”

Mr Donohoe confirmed the shire had not received any complaints from residents about the road closure.
