Each of these scarves will soon be distributed to those who really need them in the community.

Complete with the message ‘I am not lost, I was handmade for you. If you are cold and need me, please take me’, these scarves were lovingly made by Kelmscott resident Shirley Sanders in an attempt to bring warmth and comfort to those who are doing it tough on the streets of Perth.

Ms Sanders puts her skills as a seamstress to good use everyday assisting with Western Australia’s first branch of the Scarf Project Australia.

The project started in 2016 with the goal of keeping people in the community warm, one scarf at a time.

Ms Sanders said she was proud to be the first West Australian entity for the group.

“I am more of a sewer than a knitter, hence blanket scarves were my first thought for lost people having spent a couple of nights out in the cold,” she said.

Ms Sanders distributes her creations to three groups, the WA Police Force, St Vincent de Paul and Save the Children Australia.

She is looking for more donations to keep up with demand and was accepting donations of scarves, beanies, gloves, mittens and blankets as well as wool or fleece warm fabric to make new creations.
