Member of Armadale and author Tony Buti with his latest book A Stolen Life: The Bruce Trevorrow Case.

Tony Buti plays many roles in the local community. He is a Member of Parliament, a keen cyclist and runner, an academic and also an author.

His latest published work A Stolen Life: The Bruce Trevorrow Case follows the true story of Bruce Trevorrow, who was removed from his family when he was just 13 months old.

It also traces the journey with his legal team who believed in him, the judge who empathised with his plight, and the court case that made him the only member of the Stolen Generation to take on the state and win.

Dr Buti said he started writing the book in 2008 and finished it in 2010.

“Due to my previous professional and academic work in the area of Stolen Generations it was only natural that I would want to write a book on the Bruce Trevorrow case, which is the only successful court case in Australia by a Stolen Generations plaintiff,” he said.

“To write this book involved interviewing a number of people and working my way through the trial transcript of 3085 pages and voluminous court documents.”

Dr Buti said the book would appeal to people interested in legal cases, public servants, those working in child protection and people who wanted to learn about Australian history.

A Stolen Life: The Bruce Trevorrow Case will be launched by WA Treasurer and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Ben Wyatt on June 20 at University of Western Australia.
