A long-term dialysis patient who regularly attends Armadale Hospital is so sick of people parking illegally in the dedicated car parking bays for dialysis patients, she has taken matters into her own hands.

Kristine White has been attending the hospital three days a week for the past eight years to undergo treatment for kidney failure.

She said she frequently observes people parking in the hospital’s seven dedicated dialysis patient parking bays.

“Usually people will say ‘I’m sorry I didn’t realise’ and then they will move and I am happy,” she said.

“But for many their attitude is that they don’t care.

“I believe there are not enough Australian Council for Rehabilitation of Disabled (ACROD) bays and the overflow from that comes over to the dialysis bays.”

Mrs White said she has previously voiced her concerns to the hospital’s security department and Member for Armadale Tony Buti and while the issue is initially resolved, it soon becomes a problem again.

“They are not rude, they are just educating people that they have illegally parked and that they are making it hard for the patients to park,” she said.

“We shouldn’t have to fight over our bays and shouldn’t have to educate people not to park here.”

An Armadale Health Service spokesperson said the staff have implemented a range of strategies to discourage unauthorised parking such as increased patrols and fines.
