Lumen Christi College celebrated its 35th anniversary on Tuesday, marking the school’s opening in 1984.

Since then, the college has grown into a thriving, diverse community of nearly 1000 students.

Principal Karen Prendergast said Lumen Day was an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate their foundation.

“This 35th birthday celebration is a wonderful opportunity for the college community to come together and reflect on the past 35 years and celebrate a bright future ahead,” she said.

Staff member Norah Allison has been at the school for 30 years and said she feels very proud to see all the changes and achievements over the past years.

“But what has remained constant is the strong sense of community and the wonderful, kind hearts of our students,” she said.

During the day the school celebrated with different activities for the students and staff members. There was also a fashion show to raise awareness for the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal.

Each year the college donates clothes and winter apparel for selected staff and year 12 students to wear on the catwalk during Lumen Day.

The fashion show seeks to help homeless and unfortunate people in the community.

Some of the school’s highlights over the past years include being selected as one of the 15 career lighthouse schools across Australia in 2007, being recognised for the national focus to improve career outcomes for young people through the Vocational Education and Training Program.

Also the development of the Junior Transition Centre in 2015, an area built specifically for year 7 students to help them transition into high school.
