Community champions in the City of Canning will be able to launch solutions to sustainability problems with the new sustainability challenge this month.
This joint initiative between he city and crowdfunding platform StartSomeGood.com will encourage local residents to pitch their social impact ideas to their community in an effort to achieve a target of $2000.
Those who reach their target will be awarded an additional $2000 from the city to develop and roll out their exciting local sustainability projects.
The city has selected three projects that range from two local primary school students educating and inviting children their age to get involved in reducing plastics in the environment.
Ending period poverty worldwide, providing support to the homeless, vulnerable and underprivileged by running fitness classes are also some of the projects that the students came up with.
City of Canning Mayor Paul Ng said the Sustainability Challenge forms part of the city’s goal to grow local social enterprise and connect the community.
“These projects have been nurtured right here in Canning and they aim to make a positive difference in the world,” he said.
“The city recognises that these same ingenious and inspiring ideas which could potentially have a game-changing impact on the community are hamstrung by lack of funding.
“This new and innovative system of funding complements the city’s mentoring of social enterprise start-ups so we can give them a launch pad to turn their ideas into reality.
The community is invited to come along and support the local initiatives and learn some of these social impact projects at the Canning sustainability pitch night on Au- gust 21 from 6pm-9pm at the City of Canning Administration and Civic Centre.
