Residents within the Jarrahdale region are being encouraged to take what they need and give what they can to a local fresh produce stall.
Hosted by Jarrahdale Community Collective the Grow Free stall is set up at Bruno Gianatti Hall twice a week to bring the community together with homegrown produce.
Project lead Morag Cook said the concept is an exciting movement sprouting up all over the country.
“The presentation of the grow free concept to the Jarrahdale Community Collective members resulted in an unanimous vote,” she said.
“Something was ‘growing on’ in Jarrahdale and everyone saw the benefits for the community of the project like grow free.”
The stall regularly features homegrown fruit and vegetables, seedlings, eggs and jars of homemade condiments and is frequently attended by nearby residents.
Ms Cook said the success of the current stall has inspired the group to plan a more permanent solution for Jarrahdale.
“We will be constructing a small building at the Bruno Gianatti Hall called the share shed,” she said.
The Grow Free stall is available on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9am to 12pm and the share shed is expected to be up and running by November.
