Willetton are perhaps better prepared for the 2020 season than any year in its history according to Willetton Football Club president Perry Kleppe.
The club has dedicated a football operations team with manager Alan Rowlands having coached more than seven grand finals.
The club is also looking to officially form its very first women’s team as they are planning to recruit 35 girls to join the team.
With a new women’s coach already appointed Mr Kleppe said the club is hunting a good blend of younger women and seniors.
“Ideally we would be seeking younger ladies to give the club some depth going forward supported by more senior girls in the early to mid 20s and up to 30 years of age,” he said.
Mr Kleppe also said new coach Glen Hunter is not only a well accomplished coach but also experienced and skilled at introducing women’s teams into the competition.
“He was the inaugural coach for Rossmoyne Football Club’s entry into the women’s competitions and took the squad into the A grade level within two years,” he said.
“Glen also has roots in Willetton being a former junior president.”
He said the club has also appointed Helen Hunter to the committee to take on the role as women’s football manager.
“We’re confident the all-important management structure for success is in place and all we need now is the depth of players,” he said.
“2020 sees us back in C1 and we have done some recruiting over the break so we expect to have a very strong, competitive team for the coming season.”
Apart from the new women’s team the club is also expanding its support base with the inclusion of a Past Players Association and a social membership package for supporters to broaden its support and historical connections.
In 2020 the club will be celebrating its 21st anniversary of the Willetton Football Club’s entry into the Amateur Football Association.
