Vandalism to two Serpentine Jarrahdale shire-owned facilities has cost ratepayers close to $10,000 to fix.
The Byford public toilets, located next to the Byford Hall were targeted by vandals last month who took it upon themselves to spray graffiti on walls and doors.
Similar damage also occurred less than a month later at the public toilets at Clem Kentish Oval and Serpentine Tennis Courts at Wellard Street.
Shire president Michelle Rich said the walls and doors at both facilities needed to be repainted and anti-graffiti coating was applied to prevent any future damage.
The damage to the Byford public toilets cost $4620 while the repair costs in Serpentine cost about $5000.
Ms Rich said she was extremely disappointed to hear the community facilities were damaged.
“It means that the community is unable to access them while they are repaired, as well as ratepayers’ money having to be spent to cover the cost of repairs,” she said.
“The shire is continually looking at ways to improve community safety at its facilities.
“At this time installation of CCTV is not being considered for Byford public toilets.”
Anyone who witnesses anti-social behaviour is encouraged to call police on 131 444 while damage to shire facilities can be reported via the shire’s website or by calling 9526 1111.
