More than 1000 people attended the grand finals of the first-ever Lego League held in Western Australia at Curtin University last weekend.
STEM outreach coordinator Tim Keely said the event was a celebration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
“It may seem exaggerated but the whole event is the highlight,” he said.
“The fact that over 1000 people, nearly half of them children turn up to celebrate STEM skills and principles with colour, music, energy and creativity for over nine hours, is amazing.
“The energy and gracious professionalism shown by all teams and audience was inspiring and no doubt the numbers of teams will grow next year.”
Five of the 48 teams participating won the right to compete in International First Lego League events in Brazil, Japan, the United States and in Sydney.
Those five teams were Iona Presentation College, Lathlain Primary School, Atwell College, Golden Bay Primary School and St Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls.
