An 18-year-old boy from Lumen Christi College is one of only 10 students in Western Australia to have been awarded the Fogarty Foundation Scholarship at the University of WA.
Patrick Morton holds the school’s highest Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) result this year with a score of 98.65.
To prepare for his ATAR test Mr Morton said he did a lot of practice exams, discussed content with friends and made sure he got a good amount of sleep.
“I think it’s really important to try and have a healthy school and life balance and continue to do things outside of your academic studies like sport and music,” he said.
“Don’t sacrifice sleep for study and learn how to be able to switch between study and relax mode.
“I also think it is really helpful to talk to your family about how you are going with your studies so they know how you are feeling and can try to support you accordingly.”
The young achiever will undertake a Bachelor of Philosophy with a direct pathway to study medicine and become a surgeon.
Principal Karen Prendergast said the school is very proud of the six students that achieved ATAR scores of more than 90 per cent.
“Their commitment to their studies and their contribution to college life was inspiring to see,” she said.
“They are outstanding role models for our current students, and we look forward to seeing where the future takes them.”
