After three years at the helm, outgoing Armadale Kelmscott Lions Club president Ted Watts has rounded out his tenure by receiving one of the Lions’ highest honours.

Mr Watts was presented with the Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow last weekend during the club’s final meeting for the financial year in recognition of his outstanding work and unwavering dedication to the district.

During his time as president, the club has raised more than $70,000 for the community and increased its membership by almost one-third.

Mr Watts joined the club six years ago, but has been involved with the not-for-profit service organisation for more than three decades at branches across the state.

The Camillo resident and two-time Community Volunteer award winner said he had always been driven by a desire to give back to the community.

“I just enjoy helping other people, helping the community,” he said.

“What I appreciate about the Lions Club is that there are no administration costs – you can rest assured that every cent raised goes straight back into helping the community.

“That’s why I really like and enjoy it.”

Mr Watts will continue to serve the club as treasurer and act as the district’s global leadership coordinator – a challenge he has welcomed with open arms.

Though the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the club’s fundraising efforts through the cancellation of several events, Mr Watts said he was confident the club would come out better and stronger.
