The 2021 Perth Football League season is set to get underway on April 10, with the Canning Vale Senior Football Club to host Baldivis at Clifton Park in round one.
This event will see the launch of the newly established Cougars E3 team.
CVFC has seen increasing demand from the community for increased physical activity, resulting in the club expanding to five teams.
On March 20, the Cougars played a series of scratch matches against Melville in preparation for the upcoming season.
The games were all played in stifling heat, and so the quarters were shortened for player welfare concerns.
The day started with the women’s team. The side showed it was in for another successful season, with the addition of several new players.
Team captain Abbey Amaranti led by example, and had numerous damaging possessions.
New additions Mikayla and Jasmyn Hollamby blended nicely into the team, and will both be forces to be reckoned with.
The coaching group were very pleased with the hit-out, and are excited for the next few weeks.
The Cougars’ reserves side had a hard-fought match against Melville, who were last year’s premiers.
Zach Wilkinson made his first appearance in Cougars’ colours, and showed that he will be a key player in the seniors.
Many players from last year’s colts team featured throughout the game, including Scott Read, Dylan Plumridge and Carlos Garcia.
Josh Kinnelly and a Melville player collided heavily, as both had their eyes on the football.
It was a very competitive clash, and had the Cougars’ coaching group excited about what they saw.
The league scratch match saw the 2020 Grand Final runners-up competing against the Cougars.
Despite the oppressive heat, both teams were able to get a good look at the talent they have.
Matt Nicholas showed that he will be an asset for the Cougars throughout the season.
League coach Darren Brealey was very pleased with what he saw, and will be expecting the Cougars to feature strongly in 2021.
The club’s newly formed E3 team had a run against the colts team.
The Cougars’ colts coach Fabian D’Agnone has been very active in recruiting for the season.
He is quietly excited with the depth of talent in the colts, despite no Year 12 junior team members coming through.
