Barry and Lorraine Young, of the Amanda Young Foundation, recently got the chance to meet some of the state’s best and brightest students.
Thirty-five Year 12 students from across WA, including nine from regional areas, attended the foundation’s 2021 Young Leaders Camp.
Held from April 12-15 at Penrhos College, the camp saw all 35 students engage in team-building, leadership, wellness, and ‘personality profiling’ exercises.
The exercises were all delivered by Mike Bormann and the team at JoJara Associates.
“We were absolutely delighted with this year’s event,” Mr Young said.
“We had an amazing divergence of people from across WA…they come from many different places.
“It was a positive reflection of 21st century Australia, and it was a very pleasant gathering.”
Over the past two decades, more than 800 of the state’s top students have attended the camp.
The camp brings together like-minded students each year, and helps them to form meaningful and long-lasting friendships.
The idea was inspired by Barry and Lorraine’s daughter Amanda, who attended Penrhos College back in the 1990s.
During her time at the school, Amanda attended the Murdoch University Summer Science School and the National Youth Science Forum in Canberra.
