To fill the seat of River Ward, a special election was held by the City of Armadale with John Keogh voted in as the successful candidate.
Mr Keogh grew up in the Armadale area, working and volunteering across the area.
Mr Keogh said he looks forward to being in a position to help people.
“I love the Kelmscott area and wish to see it properly looked after,” he said.
“After the completion of Denny Avenue, and other major works, I worry about what the ‘town centre’ of Kelmscott will look like.
“I also wish to see greater co-operation with state and local government to encourage business growth in Armadale, while also building and maintaining community amenity.”
As a member for the Roleystone Bushfire Brigade, Mr Keogh has key concerns regarding the fire safety in Armadale.
“Armadale has 46 per cent tree canopy coverage and 1,056 hectares of bushland so ensuring we have proper, well-resourced brigades is important.
“I am someone who genuinely cares and wants to help see Kelmscott and the greater Armadale area go from strength to strength.
“I believe it is a great location and genuinely want to see it improve.
“I am also a big believer in the mantra ‘the intelligence is in the room’ meaning speak to the people it directly affects.”
Mr Keogh hopes to engage with the community by alerting them to places and times he will be available to catch up for coffee or raise any issues they may have,
“I will attend various community events throughout the calendar year too,” he said.
“I also hope people will reach out to me either through my Facebook page or email me should the have any concerns.
“I will also be available before or after any council meeting should they wish to discuss anything then.”
“One of my goals is to work closely with people and to work to achieve as much as a consensus as possible.
“I will actively engage with residents to hear their concerns and will work with councillors to ensure all councillors are aware of common concerns across wards.
“As someone who wants what is best for the City of Armadale, I am confident that common ground can be found amongst both councillors and residents.”
City of Armadale Chief Executive Officer Joanne Abbiss said the city now has a full complement of elected members who will continue to work together as a team to meet the needs of our fast growing community.
“A total of four candidates contested the River Ward seat and this indicates a healthy level of interest in serving the community,” she said.
Mr Keogh will complete his term in October 2023 and will be sworn in at a Council meeting on Monday 13 July.
