Firefighters could be seen on the roof of a property as the blaze burned in the roof space.

Neighbours on a street in Kelmscott last week watched on as firefighters climbed onto the roof of a house to put out a fire.

The house fire was accidentally lit by water leaking into the roof space according to the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

About 2.50pm on July 15 a triple zero call alerted DFES to a house fire in Kelmscott.

The fire caused significant damage to the roof space of the property and had begun after water leaked into the ceiling, causing an electrical shortage and igniting the blaze.

Six appliances from three fire brigades including Armadale, Maddington and Welshpool attended the scene.

The blaze was put out by 3.15pm however according to DFES the flame reignited around 6.20pm that night but was put out with a cup of water.

On July 16 a fire investigation officer visited the scene and determined the cause was accidental.
