After experiencing a tragic loss, Jenny Browne set up a GoFundMe for her sister and Byford local, Daphne Stevenson.

Ms Browne said Daphne lost her husband tragically earlier this year.

“The tragic loss of a loved one is not new to Daphne,” she said.

“Years back she lost her identical twin, Leonie.”

Ten years after Leonie died, Daphne met Geoff Stevenson and they married in 2011 in a Scottish wedding.

Originally owning a property in Beeliar, the couple tried to operate their small business from there but were unable to proceed due to council legislation.

They moved to Byford where they had the dream of building a home.

Mr Stevenson built a small residence of concrete as they began to build their home.

Unfortunately, they were unable to obtain a bank loan, but their small business was building, so Mr Stevenson began to use his skills as a builder to start building their house on a pay as you go method.

When Mr Stevenson suddenly passed, the house was left incomplete.

Ms Browne opened the fundraiser to try assisting Mrs Stevenson with financial help and by putting her story into the community in hopes that they could find an electrician, plumber, and carpenter to assist.

“At the moment I have parts of the ceiling missing as Geoff was in the process of finishing that when he passed,” Mrs Stevenson said.

“The rest of the cabinets in the kitchen need to be installed.

“I have been so grateful for members of the community who have helped, in particular my neighbours.

“I’ve been set up with food hampers for some time which has helped immensely.”

Mrs Stevenson’s son Ryan has begun helping her with the business and the home, but with only a small amount of work it hasn’t been easy.

“We just need some extra help,” she said.

“Geoff put so much into the house, it was his dream.”

The home has a deadline to be finished and habitable by December 31.
