Sunday saw the annual NAIDOC round for the Forrestdale Junior Football Club and it was a huge day for the growing club.
The crowd was treated to four matches. With the Year 3, 5 and 6 teams battling it out against East Freo. While the Year 5/6 girls had a clash with Mundijong Centrals.
Each team showcased the club’s new NAIDOC jumpers, designed by local Indigenous artist Jacinta Anderson.
The guernseys told the story of the junior footy club’s journey so far, and represented the Forrestdale Lake and its history with the people.
Local Indigenous groups were invited to set up stalls, and the tantalising scent of kangaroo and bush honey coleslaw sliders wafted on the breeze.
There were also locally made native jams, damper tastings and custom clothing labels to keep punters rugged up.
Half-way through the day a smoking ceremony was presented, along with traditional dancing and didgeridoo playing.
The weather held off long enough for the ceremonies, before the rain came pouring down for the last two games.
Each team playing that day presented their best on ground with a medallion: Congratulations to (Y3) Alice Coleman, (Y5/6 girls) Mila Lowrie, (Y5) Harley Slob, and (Y6) Bailey Lambie.
