Actor Samuel Johnson, who played Molly Meldrum in the 2016 TV mini-series Molly as well as other famous roles in shows such as Home and Away, The Secret Life of Us, Underbelly and Crackerjack, is on a new quest to have thousands of businesses support the charity Love Your Sister.

Canning Vale’s community bank Gosnells Financial Services joined the Gold Logie-winning actor and Victorian Australian of the Year 2018, Mr Johnson OAM and is providing an annual donation to the cause.

Love Your Sister is a million-strong village of everyday Aussies committed to vanquishing cancer with hard science and the best new technologies.

Mr Johnson’s sister Connie died aged 40 after a long battle with cancer in 2017.

Love Your Sister supports Precision Medicine for all cancer patients, whatever the cancer, regardless of location, age, income, or status.

Love Your Sister contacted Gosnells Financial Services Limited, the Community Bank Canning Vale branch of Bendigo Bank, Company Secretary Claire Hurst to discuss the charity after noting that she followed them as a representative on social media.

From that initial contact, the bank’s representatives had the privilege of meeting Samuel Johnson in person, providing an annual donation to the cause.

“We are proud to support such an amazing initiative that in itself supports local communities,” bank company secretary Claire Hurst said.

Samuel Johnson echoed the sentiment saying that a work-life balance was important in promoting a healthy workforce and community.

“Social responsibility puts the company in touch with its community, grows the customer base, creates partnership opportunities, lifts morale in the workforce and instils a sense of pride in the company,” Mr Johnson said.

“Adopting a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program boosts an organisation’s competitiveness, resulting in business growth and increased profits, as well as meeting community expectations.

“Philanthropic support is also the easiest way for a business to make a positive social impact through tax-deductible donations.”

By joining the Sam’s 1000 collective, donors can also increase Love Your Sister’s capacity to advocate for change and influence policy decision making and equity.
