Canning Council has secured $717,120 in Federal blackspot and $344,000 in State Government Black Spot funding for key road safety projects over the next two years.
Black Spot projects target locations that have a recorded history of incidents with a specific focus on fatal and/or serious crashes.
The three projects to receive Federal funding include: Corbel Street and Modillion Avenue North, Shelley: Install roundabout and upgrade street lighting; Lawson Street and Farnham Street, Bentley: Install and modify median islands to prevent right turn and through movements from Farnham Street; and Lawson Street and Marquis Street, Bentley: Install pre-deflection on Marquis Street north approach to roundabout, improve pedestrian crossing points, modify geometry and pavement markings.
The State projects will be delivered at: Vahland Avenue and Collins, Willetton: Remove right turn filter (Vahland Ave into Collins Road), extend right turn pocket and install overhead mast arm on northern approach of Vahland Avenue; Welshpool Road and Moriarty Road, Welshpool: Install median island on approach to intersection from Moriarty Road North.
Install give-way sign on approach to intersection from Moriarty Road North. Reinforce give-way signage with additional give way sign; and Wharf Street, Whitlock Street and Elshaw Street, Queens Park: Install pre-deflection on both Wharf Street North and South Street.
Mayor Patrick Hall said the funding aligns with the City’s Road Safety Management Plan, and it illustrates the City’s concerns regarding the nominated locations were warranted.
“The program of works will play a key role in boosting safety for motorists across the community,” he said.
