Children of all ages had a blast playing with LEGO, eating cupcakes, and taking home activity packs and teddy bears at the Children’s Week event hosted by Communicare and the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale Library last Wednesday.
The event was a celebration of the theme of Children’s Week 2023, ‘Children have the right to relax, play and take part in activities they enjoy’.
It was also a chance for children to come together and have fun in a safe and inclusive environment.
“We wanted to create an event where children could simply relax and have fun, and we think we succeeded,” Coordinator of Communicare’s Communities for Children program Nicci Salley said.
“It was clear that the children were having a blast, and we’re so grateful to the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale Library for partnering with us to make this event happen.”
Communities for Children is a place-based initiative funded by the Department of Social Services that provides early intervention and programs to families with children 0 to 12 years old.
It supports integrated service delivery in the areas of family and domestic violence, child development, and parental capacity.
“Communities for Children is a vital part of our community, and we’re grateful for their support of this event and of children and families in the City of Gosnells, City of Armadale, Serpentine-Jarrahdale, or the suburbs of Byford or Mundijong,” said library officer Samuel Alexander.
The event was a huge success, and both organisations said they look forward to partnering again in the future to host more events for children and families in the community.
