Organisers of the Byford Carols are declaring this year’s event was the best one yet. The small but dedicated carols committee has been putting together the annual community event for 30 years.

Hundreds of families packed into Briggs Park on Saturday to raise their voices on high in a celebration of Christmas and community.

Shire president Rob Coales officially opened this year’s event.

“Christmas is a really important time to spend time with your loved ones, but also to think about those people who might not be as lucky and who might not have family. So reach out to your neighbours, reach out to the community, and care for each other during this period,” Mr Coales said.

Volunteers from Byford Baptist Church manned the free sausage sizzle, while kids got their hands sticky with some craft activities.

And a sunglasses-bedecked firefighting Santa surprised the young and young-at-heart before the real singing began.

The Heritage Country Choir, and students from West Byford Primary, Marri Grove Primary and Byford Secondary College joined forces to provide the ballast for the community’s vocal stylings. Students from Salvado Catholic College also entertained with three numbers of their own.
