Call for security patrols in mall after stabbing

2211

A Jull Street Mall business owner said he feared for the safety of his staff following a stabbing incident in the mall last Sunday evening.

Dome Armadale owner Graeme Mills said problems in the mall had been escalating and he was not surprised a serious incident had occurred.

Just after 6pm a fight started in the mall outside the Armadale Shopping City entrance.

During the brawl a 29-year-old man was allegedly stabbed in the back.

The man was taken to Royal Perth Hospital in a stable condition.

About 1.45am on February 22 police arrested a 24-year-old Brookdale man on Albany Highway in Mount Nasura in relation to the incident.

Mr Mills said over the past few months the situation in Jull Street had deteriorated.

“I still fear for the safety of our staff and we still close early because of the fact it’s just not safe out there,” he said.

“We’ve been living on the edge and have been lucky nothing really serious has happened.”

He said he would look at asking the council for a permanent security force to patrol the mall.

The Brookdale man was charged with acts likely to endanger life and appeared in the Armadale Magistrates Court on February 22.

Anyone with information on serious incidents can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online at crimestopperswa.com.au.
