Education Minister and Member for Armadale Tony Buti made the announcement before Christmas

It’s predicted that up to 40,000 people will eventually call the Wungong Urban Development area home.

It will be the single largest master planned residential development in the state.

So, the race is on to make sure vital infrastructure is ready to cater for the influx of new locals to the City of Armadale.

Before Christmas the state government announced planning has commenced for a new primary school in the precinct, which is expected to open for the start of the 2026 school year.

Wungong Primary School will cater to families in the growing suburb of Hilbert and be the first school to open in the Wungong Urban Master Plan.

It will have capacity for 540 students and include an administration, early childhood teaching area, general learning areas, specialist rooms for art and science, a library, covered assembly area, music room, dental therapy, oval and hard courts.

“This is an exciting announcement for local families and future residents,” Premier Roger Cook said.

“This new public primary school will have state-of-the-art facilities, giving local students access to the best possible learning environments where they can thrive.”

A second primary school was also announced for the City of Kwinana, in Wellard East.

“Schools are a focal point for so many of our communities and these new primary schools will enrich the suburbs of Hilbert and Wellard,” Education Minister Tony Buti said.

“For families in Hilbert, what an exciting time this will be to send their children to the first school in the Wungong Urban Master Plan.”
