Students at Communicare Academy, working alongside art teacher Cassandra White-Dunn, have created a bold new artwork for the City of Gosnells.

Principal Matthew Borgward said the painting featured all the continents of the world wrapped in a ribbon, symbolising inclusivity and diversity within Australia.

“We are so incredibly proud of all the students who participated in this project and the thought and creativity that went into the work,” Mr Borgward said.

“The painting will be displayed at the City’s citizenship ceremonies, which is fantastic as it further embeds our school within the community and reflects the diversity we embrace not only in the Academy, but across Communicare.”

A number of the students who participated in the project met with Gosnells mayor Terresa Lynes this week to hand over the artwork.

Ms Lynes congratulated the Communicare Academy students for creating the colourful and detailed artwork and thanked them for their contribution to the citizenship ceremonies.

“Becoming an Australian Citizen is a significant day in the lives of many residents in our community and having local students involved adds a special element as we officially welcome our newest citizens to the community,” she said.

“We also hope this encourages the students to explore other ways to be good citizens, by being active and engaged in the local community.”

Communicare Academy is a Curriculum and Reengagement in Education (CARE) School.

CARE schools provide year 7-12 students with a unique approach to re-engagement in their education journey, focusing on student wellbeing and education support.

The academy also provides flexible learning options and modified curriculums to re-engage students at-risk of falling through the cracks, or those who have been disengaged for some time.
