The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale invites all community members to pay their respects to those who have served and who continue to serve our country at the Paterson Street War Memorial this Anzac Day, Thursday, 25 April.
Anzac Day is the national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
It is a day to honour the contribution and suffering of all those who have served.
The day’s commemorations will commence with a dawn service hosted by the Serpentine Jarrahdale RSL sub-branch at 5.50am.
The dawn service tradition honours those who have fallen in battle and is an opportunity for all to contemplate and reflect.
A gunfire breakfast will follow shortly after.
The main commemorative service will begin with a processional march forming up at 8.30am, before official proceedings commence at 9am, with a morning tea to follow.
Shire President Rob Coales said Anzac Day was an opportunity for our community to come together and pay tribute to those who gave their lives in service to our country and those that continue to serve.
“This solemn day of remembrance pays tribute to the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women, ensuring their courage and dedication is never forgotten,” he said.
“The freedoms we enjoy today were paid for by those who came before us.
“Anzac Day is a chance for all Australians to connect through our shared history and appreciate these brave men and women.
“Today we speak of an Anzac tradition meaning the ideals of courage, endurance and mateship. Values that are still very relevant to this day.”
