A Byford man has been arrested after an alleged domestic violence incident escalated into a tense five-hour stand-off with police.

Parts of Byford were locked down on Saturday afternoon as police tried to negotiate with the man, who was on bail, and allegedly armed with a gel blaster.

A 40-year-old woman and her three teenage children (17, 15, and 13) were also inside the Plaistowe Boulevard home.

Police were called to the address just after 4pm to conduct a welfare check.

Officers said they spoke to the man through the security screen door where they noticed him holding the gel blaster.

Over the next five hours police tried to urge the 36-year-old man to come out of the home. Thankfully, the woman and her children were able to escape without incident.

About 9.40pm, the man gave himself up; he exited the house and was immediately arrested.

He was charged with breaching protective bail conditions, three counts of possessing a prohibited weapon, being armed in a way that may cause fear, and obstructing public officers

He appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court on Sunday.

The incident will be investigated by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau and a report prepared for the coroner.

Alleged pervert arrested

The hunt for a cyclist who allegedly exposed himself to a young girl and engaged in ‘dirty talk’ with a young boy has come to an end.

Police arrested an 18-year-old Gosnells man on Monday and charged him with five counts of Indecent Dealings with a Child Under 13 Years.

Police made the arrest after a public appeal for information from the Child Abuse Squad bore fruit.

The first incident, on Sunday 14 April, occurred on Waterperry Drive in Canning Vale sometime between 5pm and 6:30pm.

The man riding a bicycle approached an 11-year-old boy and engaged the child in an inappropriate conversation of a sexual nature. The boy went home and told his family.

The second incident, on Saturday 20 April 2024, occurred on Lakeside Drive in Thornlie sometime between 5:30pm and 6:00pm. The man riding a bicycle approached an 11-year-old girl, exposed himself to her and engaged in an inappropriate conversation of a sexual nature.

The girl also reported the incident to her family.

Police released CCTV footage relating to both incidents showing a person riding a bicycle in those areas at the time of the incidents. The footage was instrumental in identifying the man they eventually arrested.

The 18-year-old appeared before the Armadale Magistrates Court on Monday.
