Cost of living relief is the federal government’s number one priority, according to local Federal Member for Burt and Minister for Veteran’s Affairs Matt Keogh.
Mr Keogh said he has listened to local people.
“Cost of living is our Government’s number one priority,” Minister Keogh said.
“I know people in our community are really feeling the pinch at the moment. This Budget seeks to ease that pressure.
“Every single household in our community will get $700 off their energy bills thanks to State and Federal funding and every taxpayer will get a tax cut.
“We’re keeping medicines cheaper and people with student debt – be it from university, TAFE or doing an apprenticeships will have their debt slashed,” he said.
Mr Keogh said every Australian taxpayer will get a tax cut – for people in Burt that is about 82,000 people and it will average about $1,489 per person.
Other announcements during Tuesday night’s Federal Budget included:
- Energy bill relief for every household in WA will be $700 thanks to combined State and Federal Funding
- Cutting student debt, which isn’t just for uni students but also TAFE and Apprentice debt – this will benefit 16,616 people in Burt
- Increasing the maximum rate of commonwealth rent assistance by 10% – which will see 7,110 households better off in Burt
- Additional fee-free TAFE places
- Medicare coverage will be expanded to an additional MRI machine in Burt making imaging services more affordable
- An additional $275 million Federal Funding for the METRONET: Thornlie Cockburn Link.
