Dignitaries gathered in Forrestdale yesterday to officially open Stage 3 of Carey Baptist College’s secondary school.
Students now have access to six new general learning classrooms, complete with glass sliding doors that open out onto a breakout learning space. The new and existing classrooms also make full use of the natural bush outlook surrounding the school.
The Stage 3 build also delivered new staff amenities and meeting rooms, and a kitchen.
The new facilities were finished in late January after a 12-month build, and allow the school to cater to up to 90 students in each year level.
This is the first year the Forrestdale campus has welcomed a full contingent of students from years 7 to 12.
The project was aided by a large grant from the federal government.
Local member for Burt Matt Keogh officially opened the new facilities alongside school principal Scott Puzey.
“The project, delivered thanks to an $800,000 contribution from the Albanese Government’s Capital Grants Program, will go a long way to supporting the unique education programs on offer at Carey,” Mr Keogh said.
“These state-of-the-art classrooms have been built for secondary school students, with breakout learning spaces including cooking and kitchen facilities that will complement the various STEAM and VET programs on offer at Carey.
“Office and meeting spaces for staff have also been expanded, which will ensure the College’s incredible teachers have the resources they need to provide a world-class education now and into the future.
“These enhancements to Carey Baptist College’s Forrestdale site will add to the diversity of education opportunities in our rapidly growing community to set local students up for the future.”
There has been a flurry of expansion at Carey Baptist College since the school established its Forrestdale campus in 2016.
Last year students welcomed new arts, woodwork, metal work and robotics facilities. And next year, the school hopes to deliver a new sports hall and stadium.
