Byford’s best voices will sing their hearts out on Sunday in honour of a local family who are still struggling after a terrible accident earlier this year.
The Heritage Country Choir will donate all proceeds from their ‘Singing Around the World’ concert this weekend to the Wright family.
Steve Wright was left a quadriplegic in February after a small but devastating tumble in his Byford backyard.
In an instant the family lost two incomes, with Steve’s wife Nicci needing to be by his side through his long and painful recovery, and care for their four children.
A community-wide fundraiser in March helped the family pay a good chunk of their rent in advance, but with therapy ongoing, they are still struggling to make ends meet financially.
Heritage Country Choir founder Eileen Davis said when the singers saw the family’s plight on social media, they knew they had to be a part of the solution.
“We do a concert every year, and the funds raised are used to keep the choir going. In the past we have also donated some of the takings,” she said.
“But when we saw their plea for help, we thought ‘let’s donate all our profits to them – they need it more than we do’.
“And they’re a local Byford family, and we feel it’s important to rally around and help other locals when they’re in need.”
The concert will feature songs from cultures all over the world, and a solo bracket from noted pianist Craig Skelton.
The music will begin at 2pm this Sunday at St Aidan’s Anglican Church on Clifton St in Byford.
Guests are encouraged to stay after the performance for a lavish afternoon tea.
Tickets are $20, and will be available for purchase at the door using cash or EFTPoS.
There will also be a raffle, with all profits from the day going towards supporting the Wright family.
