Bright blue skies and a huge crowd of supporters met the six teams competing in this year’s Serpentine Jarrahdale Netball Association Grand Finals on Saturday at Mundijong.

The day began early with the Junior Under 17 match-off between the Illusions and the Mystics.

The game was always going to be a close one, with both teams neck and neck all season.

And it didn’t disappoint – the big crowds, including 10 association life members, were entertained by a dazzling display of agility and skill.

But in the end, it was always the Mystics’ game; they finished on top with a full-time score of 22-12.

Mystics goal defence Lahnee Pozzebon was named Best On Court after an ‘outstanding’ effort. She consistently shadowed her opponent all game and was responsible for a huge number of intercepts which she managed to convert into goal-scoring opportunities for her team.

At 10am, it was the U13 Division 2 finalists’ time to shine.

The growing crowd was energized as the Firebirds and the Pearls took to the court.

It was a hard-fought match that was closer than the final score suggests. But in the end, it was the Firebirds who took home the glory, triumphing with 23 goals over the Pearls’ 10.

Best On Court was Lillian Jarrett – a little pocket rocket who proved the key to moving the ball from one end of the court to the other for her Firebirds colleagues.

The last match of the day was between the Illusions and the Panthers in the Under 13 Division 1.

The Panthers fought tooth and claw to claim their nine-point victory over their opponents; the final score 33:24.

Best On Court was another GD – Jasmine Rann – who consistently stopped everything in its tracks.

Association President Aleesha Denholm congratulated the teams on their brilliant efforts and their impeccable sportsmanship.

She also thanked the committee for their top-notch organisation of the day, and the umpires who officiated all games at a very high level.
