Six finalists have been announced for this year’s Underground Sounds (formerly known as the Gozzy Rock), with a diverse line-up of local talent ready to battle it out for a share of the $2750 prize pool, including a $1500 first prize.
Set to take the stage are R&B sensation Rosegreen, pop-punk outfit Cities, singer-songwriter Ava Sharp, dynamic vocalist Navisha, rock band The Ruby Keys, and grunge rockers Cult of Humanity.
Alongside headline act and Perth artist Wesley Black, the finalists will showcase their talent at the Underground Sounds final next month.
Now in its 37th year, Mayor Terresa Lynes believes the community won’t be disappointed with the high calibre of performers at this year’s concert.
“I know it will be a difficult task for the judging panel to select the winners this year, but it is also a great platform for these young artists to showcase their talents in front of a home crowd,” she said.
“This year’s finalists have shown that we have some very talented young musicians right here in the City of Gosnells.”
Last year’s winners were local rockers Viperchain, who have gone on to perform at sold-out gigs across Perth and feature on Triple J Unearthed.
Additionally, local Gosnells band Yomi Ship made a guest appearance in 2022 and has just returned from a successful European tour with Australian guitarist Plini, performing in France, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, and England.
This year’s final will be held at The Underground Youth Centre, located within Amherst Village Community Centre at 2 Holmes Street, Southern River, from 4 pm to 9 pm on Saturday, 5 October.
