Last Friday evening the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale hosted the much-anticipated ‘Lights, Sirens & Superheroes’ at Mundijong Oval.

The event attracted nearly 2000 people, and gave locals a chance to speak to local fire brigades, rangers, community safety groups, police, and other emergency services that work tirelessly to protect the community.

With summer on the horizon and 97 percent of the shire considered ‘bushfire prone’, attendees learned valuable tips on staying safe during the hotter months.

While safety tips were the evening’s overarching goal, the festive atmosphere made it a truly memorable night out.

Vendors not only shared important information and answered community questions, but also led some fun activities.

Kids had the time of their lives touring fire trucks, sitting in the police car, sounding the sirens, and spraying a fire hose with help from the firefighters.

Kids also got to high-five and take photos with their favourite mascots and superheroes, as well as pet or hold a snake.

With live music (eventually turning into karaoke with some future Idols leading the way), a chill-out zone, giant Jenga, Connect Four, and a variety of food trucks, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

The event was a huge success and a reminder of the community spirit that brings everyone together.
